tvN's Friday-Saturday drama "Goblin" climbed back to the top of the weekly Content Power Index rankings. Starring Gong Yoo and Kim Go Eun, the fantasy drama was recently crowned the most influential television show, beating KBS 2TV's "Hwarang" and SBS's "The Legend of the Blue Sea."
"Goblin," also known as "Guardian: The Lonely and Great God," posted impressive numbers on a TV popularity chart for the week of Dec. 26, 2016 until Jan. 01. It took the top spot with a recorded CPI score of 287.7 points, while the KBS historical drama landed second with 250.3 points, according to entertainment company CJ E&M and Nielsen Korea, as cited by The Kpop Herald.
SBS's "The Legend of the Blue Sea" and "Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim" settled in the third and fourth spot, respectively. The hit MBC variety show "Infinite Challenge," which was previously in the No. 10 spot, managed to secure the fifth spot.
The news comes as no surprise to many given "Goblin's" growing popularity across the globe. The tvN drama, which premiered on Dec. 02, 2016, has kept viewers enchanted with its refreshing storyline, state-of-the-art computer graphics, and electrifying cinematography.
Following the drama's popularity, "Goblin's" original soundtracks are also topping various music charts across South Korea. Ailee's "I Will Go to You Like the First Snow" nabbed the top spot on Monkey 3, Melon, Naver Music and Genie, while Urban Zakapa's "Wish" came in first on Soribada, Bugs, and Olleh, Soompi reported.
"We're really happy that many people seem to be giving this track a lot of love," Urban Zakapa said. "Since we're fans of 'Goblin' too, we prepared a song that fits the show well. Please keep supporting 'Wish,' which brings out the sentiment of the drama."
