Although of the almost 200 films that Hong Kong actor Andy Lau had done, most are period films and police dramas. Now starring in “The Great Wall,” Andy Lau said he prefers light comedy over action-packed movies.
However, he said if he would receive a good script for an action film, he would still accept the project and practice his moves. One reason why he is not too keen on action roles is that Andy Lau is already 55 years old, Jakarta Post reported.
Age Takes Its Toll
“I try not to do action films where I need to fight all the time or do a lot of physical work. I think fighting is a little bit hard for me now,” Andy Lau explained. However, he is open to other challenges that are not too physical such as speaking English most of the time which he did for “The Great Wall.”
For his role as a strategist in the movie, Andy Lau had to speak English most of the time. He admitted it was not that easy, but because the role he got was a thinking man, or a scholar, he had to talk to foreigners in English.
Not Interested in Hollywood
Although he shows how his English communication skills improved because of “The Great Wall,” Andy Lau clarified he is not setting his sight on Hollywood. He said he prefers to make local movies.
According to Bloody-disbusting.com, while “The Great Wall” is projected to earn only $12 million when it is shown in the U.S. in Feb. 17, the Matt Damon-starrer has already a box office of $182 million internationally which means it is expected to gross at least $200 million before its U.S. exhibition. However, the entertainment website noted that “The Great Wall” was obviously created for an American audience, yet by starring Matt Damon, the film hopes to capture U.S. viewers too.
