Fans can now watch the first two "Pokemon Sun and Moon" episodes for free via the Pokemon TV App, Comic Book reported. Episodes 1 and 2, titled "Alola to New Adventures and "The Guardian's Challenge" respectively, were previously aired on aired Disney XD last November 2016 as a preview to the upcoming 20th season.

Disney XD entered into a multi-year deal last year to air in the US the upcoming 20th season of the long running franchise, IGN reported.  The new season titled "Pokemon the Series: Sun & Moon" will air this coming January 22, right after the current season titled "Pokemon XY and Z: The Series" concludes by January 21.

The upcoming season will see the lead character Ash depart the Kalos region and head out to the Alola region in a vacation with his mother. He will leave Serena, Clemont and Bonnie behind but will gain new companions in the process such as Lillie, Lana, Mallow and Sophocles.

But it looks like Disney XD will be airing more Pokemon shows in the future as part of its programming. The channel not only acquired the rights to air the 20th season but the deal with The Pokemon Company include the rights to air reruns of all previous nineteen seasons of the series as well as 15 movies and the animated feature "Pokemon the Movie: Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel."

The multi-year contract reflects the growing popularity of the long-running Japanese series. The Pokemon series has been a hit since it launched two decades ago with its first anime season back in 1997. The franchise's popularity was recently put on the spotlight with the launch of its augmented reality game  the "Pokemon GO" last July, 2016 which became a worldwide phenomenon, capturing the imagination of Pokemon fans of all ages.
