Who says China's richest man is all work and no play? Wang Jianlin was intent bringing the house down by delivering a soulful performance of "Nothing to My Name" and "Friends" during Wanda Group's annual gala on Jan. 14.
The Group's figures didn't disappoint as well as operation income grew by 3.4 percent in 2014, while profits incurred a double-digit jump. According to the 2016 revenue report, total assets increased to RMB 796.1 billion, an increase of 21.4 percent.
Passion for Entertainment
This is not the first time Wang has showed off his singing skills as this year's spectacle is a repeat of last year's gala performance. A video of Wang went viral last year around China as it gained popularity among netizens. They expected nothing less this year.
The Chairman's penchant for entertainment extends to his business side as well as Wanda Group's acquisition in recent years include an impressive roster of entertainment companies such as AMC Entertainment and Legendary Entertainment. Since 1988, the Group rose to prominence through the acquisition of various commercial properties.
Expanding to Other Sectors
However, the company is not only focused on entertainment as it has also sponsored FIFA in the past and is looking to intensify its efforts in diversifying its sports investment in more than 20 countries.
In addition, the Group has been active in building many theme parks in China, with an aim to transforming itself into a film, sports, and tourism-led conglomerate.
As the company enters 2017 with such high-level goals, Wang assures the public of his easy-going nature. He has even jokingly remarked that in making business decisions, it was important to set a small goal, such as earning a profit of RMB 100 million.
Light-hearted Wang is already a sensation in China and the rest of the world had better prepare for next year's Gala performance.
