George RR Martin has been asked about the release status of "Winds of Winter" too many times and he has always remained elusive, saying that he is working on it. However, the famous author finally reveals the most updated status about his much-anticipated book.

According to Martin's blog, the author responded to a fan's complaint about the wide gaps between his novels. "A Song of Ice and Fire" writer explained that his book might not be finished, but he has made considerable progress and he should be able to release it this year.

Even though he gave a bright glimmer of hope to his fans, he quickly killed the hype by adding that he also thought about releasing the book last year. Some fans theorize that the famous author is buying time to release the books six and seven, "A Dream of Spring," simultaneously.

Meanwhile, as Martin takes time in releasing his much-awaited book number six, HBO is yet to renew the series finale of popular show, "Game of Thrones" based on Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire." The creators are reportedly planning to add more episodes to the show and HBO is hoping for it to be true.

Even though showrunners, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, already announced last year that "Game of Thrones" has only 13 episodes left until series finale, recent rumor says otherwise. According to Casey Bloys, HBO programming president, the creators are considering more episodes to conclude the massive series. Bloys expressed his eagerness to take on more episodes, but will leave it on the creators to shape the series, Entertainment Weekly reported.

There are also reports of a "Game of Thrones" spinoff as the show is nearing its end. Bloys said at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour that "All I can say is that we're exploring it. We don't have any scripts, we're not even close to saying 'Oh let's do this.' But it's a big enough property that we would be foolish not to explore it."

"Game of Thrones" will air season 7 this summer.
