The Nintendo Switch is now available for pre-order on all leading retailers. The following is a guide on how to preorder and where preorders are currently available.
Preorders are available in physical stores such as Walmart, Best Buy and Target. Digital platforms, such as Amazon are also offering the Switch for pre-order. GameStop, available both as a physical retail and online, also offers the Switch.
Pre-ordering a Nintendo Switch requires a consumer to apply online or to fill up a pre-order form at a physical retailer. The information will include the billing details, personal information and shipping address. Pre-orders are often given priority over those buying the console on the spot because the unit has already been paid for.
Nintendo has released two different variations of the Switch. The first is the all-gray version, which is seen in the original announcement trailer, and the second is the Switch that features Neon Blue and Neon Red Joy-Con controllers.
Bundles contain the Switch tablet, the Joy-Con controller, the Switch dock and all the required cables. No games have been bundled together with the Switch as this would affect its launch price of $299. Games are packaged in cartridges instead of Blu-Ray discs.
It should be noted that the bundled Joy-Con charging grip does not feature a charging port. A premium Joy-Con grip is sold separately and this does feature a charging port. The grip can be purchased separately for $29.99 and additional Joy-Con controllers can be purchased at $79.99 each.
However, getting a hold of the Switch is now difficult due to a lack of supply. Pre-orders have sold out at Amazon, GameStop and Walmart, The Verge reported. The all-gray Switch can still be pre-ordered at Target or Best Buy but the Switch with neon Joy-Cons has sold out.
The shortage of supply for pre-orders mirrors the high demand for Nintendo's NES Classic Edition. Nintendo of America President, Reggie Fils-Aime, addressed the issue and reassured fans that more Switch units will be made available. He also confirmed Nintendo plans to sell 2 million units in its first month of launch.
"We're working to make sure that the supply chain for Switch is robust and there is a steady flow of hardware," Fils-Aime told Gamespot. "The one piece we can't anticipate is the demand side of the equation but certainly from a supply, we feel like we're going to be well-positioned."
