Starring Amy Adams, "Sharp Objects" is currently in the works and filming is set to begin on March 6. The TV adaptation of the debut novel by Gillian Flynn was confirmed last spring and is now set up at HBO as one of its upcoming TV series.

The plan to adapt the novel into a TV series was the idea of "UnREAL" co-creator and writer Marti Noxon, and it wasn't until he suggested a TV series adaptation--not a movie--that the project finally took off. "Sharp Objects" will be the first Gillian Flynn novel to be adapted again into a series or film in the last three years. In 2014, her novel "Gone Girl" was adapted for the big screen, starring Ben Affleck.

As of now, the series already has a definite start date for production. Its story is going to revolve around a reporter fresh off a stay at a psych hospital. She returns to her hometown for her last assignment, which involves the murder of two young girls. She needs to wrestle against her own demons and reconcile her past before she ever gets to solve the case.

"Dallas Buyers Club" filmmaker Jean-Marc Vallee is set to direct the series. In his recent interview with Collider, the director shared how the series came about. Vallee revealed that the project was supposed to be a movie and not a TV series, but it was Marti Noxon who insisted to HBO that it would be better off adapted for the small screen and not the big screen.

"She had a plan and a vision, and here we are, shooting eight episodes. We're starting very soon. I committed to that before 'Big Little Lies,'" revealed the director. He also went on to say that Adams is due to begin shooting the series in a little over a month's time. The actress was initially supposed to star Vallee's "Janis Joplin" project, but it was halted by legal charges involving the production companies.

"Sharp Objects" does not have a premiere date yet, but it is expected to arrive sometime in 2018. So far, Adams is the only confirmed cast member of the series, HBO Binge reported.
