Stephen Curry has won back-to-back Most Valuable Player awards in the last two years, including a unanimous MVP, but he is not the highest paid player in the Golden State Warriors. And despite a max contract coming, Curry does not see himself playing for another team other than the Warriors.
Curry is the fourth-highest paid player in the Warriors roster and in his last season of his four-year, $44 million contract extension with Golden State he signed in 2012. However, having Kevin Durant, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson earn more than him this year does not bother him at all.
The 'Baby Faced Assassin' told the San Jose Mercury News that his father, former NBA player Dell Curry, advised him to "never count another man's money." He added that it is in his decision how to deal with how much money is given to him and complaining about earning $44 million for four years means he has "other issues in my life."
Curry has made it clear it is in the Bay Area he wants to stay for the mean time despite not disclosing chances of playing for the Charlotte Hornets where his father played for a long time, The Charlotte Observer reported. But now that the Warriors have a good three to four years of making a run for the title, the 28-year-old will be staying in Golden State to chase more rings.
With the new collective bargaining agreement that that will guarantee Curry a max contract of $210 million for five years, the Warriors would have to make ends meet if they want to keep the core of Green, Durant and Thompson in the future as the other three NBA stars will be offered max contracts in the future as well.
The sharpshooter is averaging 24.6 points, 6.0 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 1.8 steals to help the Warriors seal the top spot with a league-leading 35-6 record.
