HBO's award-winning epic "Game of Thrones" is now down to its last two seasons. It is the cable network's most bankable and record-breaking shows and the pressure is on to find something at par to take its place once it ends. Time is running out, and HBO is reportedly exploring the idea of a "Game of Thrones" spinoff series.

The "Game of Thrones" realm is a vast expanse and author George R.R. Martin himself has said that the books itself are rich in a lot of different stories, and portions of history still left untold. When asked about the possibility of a "Game of Thrones" spinoff series, HBO programming president Casey Bloys has a positive response.

"All I can say is that we're exploring it. We don't have any scripts, we're not even close to saying 'Oh let's do this.'" Screen Rant quoted Bloys as saying. "But it's a big enough property that we would be foolish not to explore it. It's a really rich world. We'd be foolish not to look at it."

Nothing has been set in stone and there are still no official information as to the potential spinoff series. There were, however, previous rumors about a Jon Snow spinoff. Entertainment Weekly reported that Kit Harington, who plays the brooding bastard in "Game of Thrones," and his representatives denied reports about the actor being approached for a standalone show.

Showrunner Dan Weiss also declined discussing spinoffs, saying they would much rather attend to the larger task at hand. "The job at hand is too enormous and challenging to be further diffusing ourselves by thinking about spin-offs, and theme park rides, and ice ballets," Weiss said.

If anything, fans of the "Game of Thrones" series and the George R.R. Martin novels agree that the "Tales of Dunk and Egg" novels would be the perfect source material for the wildly-speculated "Game of Thrones" spinoff series. The "Tales of Dunk and Egg" series takes place 90 years before the events in "A Song of Ice and Fire," from which the HBO series is based.

Some theories also suggest that a "Game of Thrones" spinoff would take place during Robert's Rebellion and would involve younger versions of Ned Stark, Tywin Lannister and Robert Baratheon.

"Game of Thrones" Season 7 will premiere on HBO this summer.
