"House of Cards" fans know by now that the Netflix series has been renewed for season 5. Netflix did not reveal its tentative release date until now.

While announcing its latest earnings, Netflix confirmed that "House of Cards" Season 5's release date has been moved. The series was previously expected to drop sometime in the first quarter of 2017, which means that it would have been available between January and March. But the online streaming service announced that the Kevin Spacey-starred political drama series will be released sometime in the second quarter.

The decision to move "House of Cards" Season 5 from Q1 to Q2 2017 was done to "steadily increase revenue and operating margin" and at the same time "balance growth and profitability," the company said in its earnings report, as obtained by SlashGear.

It appears that rumors about the series dropping on Inauguration Day have been quashed. Hello Giggles editorial director Gina Vaynshteyn posted on Twitter that it could be possible that season 5 will fall on Jan. 20, but apparently that is not happening.

When it comes to "House of Cards" Season 5's plot, Netflix has been reserved. What is known so far is that Michael Kelly, the actor who plays Frank Underwood's (Spacey) trusted ally, Doug Stamper hinted that some well-loved characters might be making an exit from the series.

"You lose characters that you love. We almost lost Frank, and I always have faith in the writers that no matter what road we go down, we're going to come back to what the show is," Kelly said in an interview with Deadline.

"House of Cards" Season 5 already said its first goodbye to series creator and showrunner Beau Willimon. Frank Pugliese and Melissa James Gibson stepped into the role of showrunners. Despite Willimon's absence, the group of writers for the show remains the same, PopSugar reported.
