Roger Federer hopes to continue his impressive form at the Australian Open 2017 when the Swiss Maestro battles Mischa Zverev in the quarterfinal round of the tournament.

The window for Federer to add an 18th major title is wide open, with the top seeds like Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic out of the Australian Open. Federer, who displayed yet again another masterful performance in his 6-4(4) 6-4 6-1 4-6 6-3 victory over Kei Nishikori, continues to play in his old form as he moved into the last-eight stage to face Zverev, who conquered world No. 1 Andy Murray in Round of 16.

"Obviously he's on a high right now. He's feeling great," Federer said of Zverev, reports Yahoo Sports. "Probably feels the best he's ever felt on a tennis court."

"It's going to be tough and different and tricky."

Federer leads the older Zverev by 2-0 in their FedEx ATP Head2Head matchup, but their most previous meeting was back in 2013 at the Gerry Weber Open four years ago. Nevertheless, considering Federer's form in Melbourne, it is hard not to consider the Basel native a favorite to reach the semifinal round of the Aussie Open.

However, Federer's road back to the finals of the major event would not be too easy as he could face either compatriot Stan Wawrinka or France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the SF round. But for Australian tennis great Rod Laver, it would be intriguing for fans around the world to see another epic battle between Federer and career rival Rafael Nadal in the final round of the Australian Open.

"It was pretty amazing that Djokovic lost, a little surprising and then of course Murray goes out, it does open the draw up," Laver said. "Yeah, it would be nice to see [Federer and Nadal] in the final."

"They've been battling each other for probably the last 11 years and now they're here with a good chance to go through."
