"The Big Bang Theory" star Jim Parsons has been in negotiation with CBS regarding his contract following Season 10. While still waiting for the outcome, the actor, who plays the genius Sheldon Cooper, has been busy exploring his career outside the hit CBS sitcom that includes "The Big Bang Theory" spin-off.
Parsons is executive producing "The Big Bang Theory" spin-off, which follows the young Sheldon and how he grew up in his home town in Texas. While he is happy that someone is portraying his character, he offered some practical advice to whoever will play the teen Sheldon in the "The Big Bang Theory" prequel.
"I would advise that actor to watch me as little as possible," Parsons told Entertainment Weekly. "The actor should take that thing by the horns, and make it your own. "[The writers] have done, from the beginning, such a good job of building such a history and a layered nature to all these characters."
Created by "The Big Bang Theory" creator Chuck Lorre with the help of executive producers Steve Molaro, Bill Prady and Parsons, the prequel is a big departure from the original "The Big Bang Theory's" live audience set-up, according to Metro.co.uk. It is said to be a single-camera family comedy similar to "Malcolm in the Middle."
There are rumors that the spin-off will include characters from the original "The Big Bang Theory" series. Among them are Sheldon's fraternal twin sister Missy, his older brother George, their father George Cooper and their mother Mary Cooper.
Laurie Metcalf may still get the job to play Mary. Other characters, who are expected to be seen in the "The Big Bang Theory" spin-off include Sheldon's grandmother Meemaw and grandfather Pop-Pop. It has been confirmed that no other original cast members would appear in the prequel.
Aside from "The Big Bang Theory" spin-off, Parsons is also into a political radio stint. He will be hosting a six-week radio series called "Jim Parsons Is Too Stupid for Politics," in which he will be giving opinions on the present political trends on SiriusXM in New York City.
The multi-talented actor dished that he has been interested in politics for a long time, and it is his wish to be given a break to voice out from a neutral point of view. He confirmed that he has been observing and training under Andy Cohen's SiriusXM channel "Radio Andy."
