Google has announced that it will be holding its Google I/O 2017 on May 17. It is expected to unleash Android O that is dubbed as Android Oreo by the rumor mill at the launch event.

The Android 7.0 Nougat OS is now coming to various smartphones across various manufacturers. However, before releasing the stable build of Android N in August 2016, Google had released five developer preview builds.

The first developer preview build was launched in March 2016. Its second preview build was unleashed in April and the third one was showcased at the Google I/O 2016 event in May. The fourth one was released in June and its fifth and last preview build had arrived in July.

The final and stable Android 7.0 Nougat was released in August for various Nexus devices. The LG V20 was the first smartphone to come preloaded with Nougat and the Google Pixel and Pixel XL were released with Android 7.1. Nougat.

Just as the first developer preview of Android N was released in March last year, the first developer preview of Android OS is pegged to release in March this year. Rumors have it that its version number would be 8.0 and it may arrive with Android Oreo moniker, Latin Post reported.

Speculations suggest that the Google Assistant will become smarter and friendlier on Android O. An edition of multi-window feature that was introduced on Android N is rumored to arrive on Android O.

It is expected to arrive with robust security. It may come with an inbuilt feature that would seamlessly users to switch themes and fonts from a wide range of available options. The status bar may also get overhaul improvements, Android Central reported.

As far as official launch of Android O is concerned, it is expected to come pre-loaded on Google Pixel 2 smartphones that are slated to release in the last quarter of this year. Apart from the Oreo moniker, the rumor mill has suggested various names like Oatcake and Orange for Android O.
