Square-Enix recently revealed on Twitter that they are collaborating with Marvel Entertainment to develop a game centering on "The Avengers." A new press release has been issued, giving more details regarding the game's story and the goals of the teams involved.

"'The Avengers' project is being designed for gamers worldwide and will be packed with all the characters, environments, and iconic moments that have thrilled longtime fans of the franchise. Featuring a completely original story, it will introduce a universe gamers can play in for years to come," reads the official Square-Enix press release, courtesy of Dual Shockers.

The press release also reveals that more details for "The Avengers" project and other Marvel-related projects will be announced in 2018. This indicates no gameplay footage may be shown during this year's E3, which takes place in June.

Jay Ong, Marvel Entertainment Senior Vice President for Games & Innovation, released a comment accompanying the above press release. The game will be a key part of Marvel's storytelling landscape which has already been well explored in comics, TV shows and films.

While Square-Enix is publishing the game, it will be developed by Crystal Dynamics with collaboration from Eidos-Montreal. The former is known for developing the 2013 "Tomb Raider" reboot game and its sequel while the latter is known for the "Deus Ex" video games.

A teaser trailer has also been released although it only gives vague ideas of the game's plot. All of the clips in the trailer show the heroes defeated, with their gear lost in rubble. The tagline of the trailer reveals the Avengers will need to reassemble, hinting they are no longer working together in the beginning of the game.

Marvel is also developing a new "Spider-Man" game for the PS4. This now indicates that the company is focusing its games back to PC and consoles after spending time honing in on the mobile market, Kotaku reported.
