As if the National Basketball Association trade rumors could not be any noisier, the Carmelo Anthony trade talks continue to swirl and it now includes the Oklahoma City Thunder as the team is reportedly interested in pairing the iso-heavy forward to Most Valuable Player candidate Russell Westbrook.
Though the Thunder are well within the playoff picture in the tough Western Conference solely because of Westbrook's exploits this season, Oklahoma City is still in need of reinforcement if they ever want to go further in the playoffs. That reinforcement might come in the form of Anthony who is being actively shopped by the New York Knicks in the NBA trade market, Fox Sports reported.
Last week, the Knicks sought the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Boston Celtics for a possible deal for Anthony but both teams declined. New York is still in talks with the Los Angeles Clippers but they are looking for a third team to facilitate the trade which will not include the Big Three of Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan.
Anthony's tenure with the Knicks is still in limbo but in the past few games, the nine-time All Star has showed why he is one of the best players in the league. He led New York to a 110-107 win against the Charlotte Hornets on Friday before dropping 45 points in a losing effort against the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday.
Despite Anthony's excellent plays this week, sources said that New York Knicks president Phil Jackson is desperately seeking for teams to deal Anthony and get rid of his contract which still has two years and $54 million left on it after this season ends. Jackson wants to free up some cap space if ever Anthony gets traded and use it to acquire assets whom he will surround Kristaps Porzingis with, Yahoo Sports reported.
It was a tough week for Anthony as he got booed by Knicks fans on Friday while being bugged by the fact that the organization which he led to second place in the Eastern Conference once is trying to get rid of him.
