Contradictory to speculations that Apple will hold two iPhone launches this year, latest grapevine suggested that Apple may announce the iPhone 6S this year and the iPhone 7 in 2016.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the next generation of iPhone, dubbed as iPhone 6S, will be unveiled later this year. The report added that the smartphone will pack Force Touch feature that will detect pressure and will open a myriad of possibilities for the smartphone.

Moreover, the new iPhone will be available in more color options aside from the current silver, gold and space gray variants. Apple is reportedly mulling over the idea of a pink iPhone to appeal to female users.

The iPhone 6S will most likely make an appearance at Apple's usual launch window in September.

Negating previous reports that iPhone 6S will pack a 4-inch screen display, the device will reportedly retain the current 4.7 and 5.5 inches screen panels, but will most likely have little improvement in the hardware similar to what Apple did when it released the iPhone 5S.

Some of the purported features of the iPhone 6S are A9 processor, 4 GB of RAM, iOS 9 with software features such as Car Play, Apple Watch, HealthKit, and Apple Pay as well as improved Touch ID fingerprint sensor.

On the other hand, Venture Beat stated that a "special" iPhone 7 will arrive next year with various models, including a variant that targets emerging markets in Asia and Latin America. This could mean that Apple will announce a cheaper iPhone next year. The report also claimed that next year's iPhone will pack Intel chipset dropping the A9 processor.

Apple offered no comment regarding the rumors.
