"Transformers: The Last Knight" recently teased fans with the release of an action-packed Super Bowl ad and the official plot synopsis, both of which may have hinted at the appearance of a powerful character.

In the recent trailers for "Transformers 5," fans spotted images of a Unicron-like being. Unicron's involvement in the sequel has been a topic of debate among fans who speculate that the outside force, otherwise called the "Creators, Optimus Prime went into space to locate refers to Unicron.

According to Comicbook, Unicron is known as the god of destruction in the "Transformers" series and is the twin brother of Primus who created the Transformers. The army of Primes, of which Optimus is the last surviving member, was built specifically to defeat Unicron.

The official plot synopsis of "Transformers: The Last Knight" reveals that Optimus Prime will be out of the picture for most of the time as the humans and Transformers wage war against one another.

"'The Last Knight' shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise, and redefines what it means to be a hero. Humans and Transformers are at war, Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth," the synopsis reads.

It is now up to the unusual coalition of Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg), Bumblee, a still-unnamed English lord (Sir Anthony Hopkins) and an Oxford Professor (Laura Haddock) to save the world.

Meanwhile, "Transformers: The Last Knight" is reported to be Michael Bay's last outing as the movie's director. Bay, who has been part of the franchise for over 10 years, wrote on his official website that the fifth film might be his final rodeo as "Transformers" director.

"This film was especially fun to shoot. But, this time might really be it. So I'm blowing this one out," Bay wrote. He added that the one thing that has kept him from leaving the franchise is his desire to make "Transformers" fans happy.

"Transformers: The Last Knight" opens in theaters on June 23.
