AMD Ryzen CPUs will be on store shelves as early as the last week of February 2017 or a few days ahead of their supposed March 2 release date. Initially, buyers will get hold of at least three 8-core SKUs (all in 16-thread) that are part of the flagship Summit Ridge R7 series and boast of "full unlocked frequency multipliers," a new report said.
WCCFTech identified the first batch of the Ryzen CPUs as the Ryzen 7 1800X, Ryzen 7 1700X and Ryzen 7 1700. All three are now up for pre-orders on a number of PC hardware retailers with the price starting at less than $320. Specifically, the tag applies to the Ryzen 7 1700 that will retail for only $316.59, the report added.
As noted by the same report, AMD's pricing model for the Ryzen chips is nothing short of "mindboggling". The Ryzen 7 1700, for instance, is AMD's direct answer to Intel's Core i7-6900K that normally sells for around $1000. Buyers opting for the most affordable so far of the Ryzen R7 series will get to take home a powerful 8-core processor and build around it a premium gaming PC while realizing some savings.
And it will be the same reasonable if not downright affordable pricing across the board, at least for the initial R7 chips that will be on shelves in the next few weeks. WCCFTech said the Ryzen 7 1700X will sell for only $381.72 while the Ryzen 7 1800X is just over $490.
If the Ryzen 7 1800X will turn out as the R7 (codenamed SR7) Black Edition then its rumored pricing of $499 or no more than $600 will prove fairly accurate.
Also of note about the leaked details are the clock speed and TPD rating. The Ryzen 7 1700, for example, is said to unbox with turbo clock of 3.7GHz but with a TDP of only 65W or way below the 140W TDP of Intel's i7-6900K, which has the same boost clock speed of 3.7GHz.
Even the Ryzen 7 1800X and Ryzen 7 1700X are way impressive as both are expected to deliver overclock speed of at least 4.0GHz on all core but with the TDP capped at 95W.
As previously reported, AMD will unleash the Ryzen chips - all 17 CPU models that include the mid-ranger R5 (SR5) and entry-level R3 (SR3) - unlocked, meaning the PC engines are set for overclocking.
It will be a phased roll out for the AMD Ryzen CPUs but Digital Trends claimed in a report that the actual release date is set to commence February 28 with the three 8-core Ryzen 7 chips first to be on display.
