“Now You See Me 2” boosted its box-office results to $335 million because it was shown in China. Other Hollywood movies hope to also achieve the same results.
The producers of the Oscar Best Picture nominee “La La Land” are hoping that the musical would also be liked by Chinese moviegoers especially lovers. It is why the premiere of the film was timed on Valentine’s Day.
China Box Office is Bonus for Producer
Since “La La Land” was produced with a budget of $30 million and the movie had earned a domestic box office of $118 million, according to CRI, any earnings from its China run would already be a bonus to the producer. Ahead of Feb. 14, “La La Land” has started to preview in selected cinemas in China.
The movie, directed by Damien Chazelle, is the story of two aspiring artists who try to find love and fame in Los Angeles. Starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, “La La Land” got seven awards at the Golden Globes, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress. It is similarly nominated in the same categories plus 10 more nominations for a record 14 nominations.
Hardest Scenes
Ryan Gosling shared that the hardest scene to shoot was him playing the piano when in real life he has been learning to play it for only three months. While the director had a hand double ready, since he was aware it was Damien Chazelle’s dream that he shoot the scene without a hand double, Gosling took the challenge and succeeded.
The second difficult scene was the sing-and dance number with Emma Stone on top of a hill. It was shot on top of a real hill and they had only 30 minutes to shoot the scene under perfect light conditions, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
