"Fifty Shades Darker" was recently released in the United States earlier this month, but unfortunately, the film did not receive high revenue.
According to Deadline, the "Fifty Shades of Grey" sequel only received a total of $40 million on its opening day. This figure is so much lower than what the franchise earned following the release of "Fifty Shades of Grey."
Initially, the movie was projected to receive $48.3 million which is just approximately 43.1 percent of "Fifty Shades of Grey's" revenue of $85.1 million. Over the weekend, the revenue of "Fifty Shades Darker" is expected to increase.
The figures are surprising because "Fifty Shades Darker" was actually rated B+ by the regulating committee. "Fifty Shades of Grey" only received a C+ rating when it was released in 2015.
Meanwhile, some men were banned from watching "Fifty Shades Darker" in select countries. According to Mirror UK, some cinemas have warned that men who will try to watch "Fifty Shades Darker" by themselves will not be allowed entry into the cinema.
Diamond Cinema in Navan, Ireland also released a memo saying that if couples will watch "Fifty Shades Darker," there should be enough space in between them. While speaking with the publication, Paul Egan, who records phone listings for the cinema released a statement about the new memo.
According to Egan, "Fifty Shades Darker" is meant to be a titillating film so it would be so much better for single males to not watch it by themselves. Since there will also be single women watching the film at the cinema, it is possible that there will be temptation everywhere.
In other news, "Fifty Shades Darker" opened with Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) and Anastasia Steele's (Dakota Johnson) reunion after a brief breakup. The couple struggled throughout the entire film with the arrival of Christian's nemesis, Jack Hyde (Eric Johnson), former BDSM teacher, Mrs. Robinson (Kim Basinger) and former submissive, Leila Williams (Bella Heathcote).
"Fifty Shades Darker" is still showing in several theaters in the United States and across the globe.
