Smartphone manufacturer Blackberry announced yesterday that it is working on a high security tablet, dubbed as SecuTablet, according to ZDNet. The tablet, which is based on Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5, is developed by Samsung Electronics and International Business Machines (IBM). It is currently undergoing a certification process at the Federal Office for Information Security in Germany.
Blackberry has designed the new device for public sector organizations and enterprises. These organizations need the highest level of security. Secusmart's encryption technology is built into Secutablet. Blackberry bought the security company Secusmart in 2014.
Hans-Christoph Quelle, Secusmart GmbH CEO, said, "Working alongside IBM and Samsung, we have added the last link in the chain of the Federal Security Network. Subject to certification of the SecuTABLET, German government agencies will have a new way to access BlackBerry's most secure and complete communications network in the world."
According to International Business Times, the tablet packs 3GB RAM and 16GB inbuilt memory. It runs on Android v4.4 KitKat operating system and features a 10.5-inch Super AMOLED display with a 2560x1600 resolution and 7,900 mAh battery.
The Canadian smartphone maker has not disclosed the price of the new tablet. Also, it is not known when the device will be available in the global market. It is expected that Blackberry will disclose more details about its new product at the upcoming CeBIT event in Germany.
This is not the first time that Blackberry has joined hands with South Korean-based Samsung. Last year, Blackberry partnered with Samsung to provide a new level of security to Android phones.
