In the previous episode, Damon and Kai work together to kill Cade and bring Elena back to consciousness. Unfortunately, the plan failed miserably. Damon approaches his brother Stefan for help, who has turned into a human. The show ended with a major cliffhanger wherein Kai stabbed Damon and escaped with Elena's casket.
Moving on to "The Vampire Diaries" (TVD) Season 8 episode 14, it is expected to reveal Damon and Elena's fate.
