Mango TV, an online video platform in China, has the exclusive broadcasting rights in China to the 89th Academy Awards in China. The Oscars take place on Sunday night, Feb. 26 in the U.S. when Mango TV would also air its Oscar special program “Mango Beats Oscar” on Feb. 27 in China.
Fearless Forecasts
Before the awards ceremony, Coca Xie, founder of China Entertainment Group – which entered into an agreement with Mango TV – would interview Tom Ford, Barry Jenkins and other Oscar nominees. There would also be interviews with Oliver Stone, Kerry Washington and other filmmakers on their expectations and fearless forecasts, according to China Entertainment Group.
Besides the Oscar, Mango TV owns the exclusive broadcasting rights in China for the Emmy Awards, Golden Globe Awards, Grammy Awards, American Music Awards and other major international awards. The video platform has held the exclusive broadcasting rights to the Oscar Awards since 2015.
With over 40 million daily active users, the 11-year-old Mangto TV specializes in creating online videos and providing content presented in TV channels as well as other copyright works exclusively from Hunan Broadcasting System and Hunan Satellite TV. In turn, China Entertainment Group is a China-U.S. business and entertainment company based in both countries and part of the growing collaboration among China-U.S. production companies.
It had collaborations with other organizations such as Hunan TV, Youku, CCTV and Alibaba. China Entertainment Group has taken part in major broadcast events such as the Hunan TV New Year Gala and Davos Forum.
Kimmel’s Political Jokes
Fox News reports that the Oscar Awards 2017 opened on Sunday night with Jimmy Kimmel beginning it with political jokes referring to U.S. President Donald Trump. “The broadcast is being watched in more than 225 countries that now hate us,” Kimmel said.
Besides joking that the Oscars – accused in 2016 of being racist – has President Trump to thank for making it easy to reach out and heal, Kimmel asked the audience to stand up in support of Meryl Streep who hit Trump at the Golden Globes.
