Viola Davis after winning her first Oscar, "I became an artist and thank God I did because we are the only profession that celebrates what it means to live a life."

She also praised writer August Wilson for exhuming and exalting the ordinary people, noted USA Today.

"Thank you for putting two entities in the driver's seat - August and God - and they served you well," she said about director Denzel Washington.

Mahershala Ali picked up his first Oscar and said, "It's not about you, it's about these characters. You're a service to these stories and these characters and I was so blessed to have this opportunity." Also pays tribute to his wife, who just had their daughter four days ago."
