''Sword Art Online'-Ordinal Scale'' premiered in Japan on Feb.18 broke all box-office records of collections in its first week of screening. This extremely awaited movie sold more than 305,000 tickets in Japan and the US fans are now eagerly waiting to watch the premiere.
According to Comicbook, it earned +400,00.00 yen (roughly $3.76 million) in the first weekend after it was released. It was shown in 150 theaters across Japan. The director Tomohiko Ito's brilliance was one more time experienced by the audience of the ''Sword Art Online'' franchise who have loved the anime series and the video games.
Since Ito was the director of the anime series too, the viewers have felt a sense of nostalgia while watching the movie ''Ordinal Scale.'' The popularity of the movie can be easily gauged by the fact that hackers have released the recorded excerpts in the entire South Asian subcontinent. In Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines, the movie leaks are expected to damage the business of the movie, reported Crunchyroll.
In the US, the movie will be premiered in a special one night show on March 1 in Hollywood. This event will be sponsored by Fathom Events, Aniplex of America Inc. and Eleven Arts. This movie will finally get a wider release in the US on March 9. It will be released in Canada on March 17 to 19 and will be released in more than 1000 theaters across the globe. Hence only time will tell, how much this movie will make worldwide.
The distributor Aniplex definitely has done a sound investment in this franchise which has brought in moola first through the Japanese light novel series, though the anime series and now through a full-fledged movie.
