Those who want Liza Soberano, 19, to become a beauty queen failed to see her in the lineup of Binibining Pilipinas 2017 contestants. However, they still should not lose hope as the father of the Filipino actress himself wants his daughter to follow the footsteps of Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, 27.

In a Maybelline New York event, the "My Ex and Whys" star revealed that it is the wish of her father John Castillo Soberano for her to join beauty pageants. She said she is not closing her doors to such contests.

"I guess it's a father's dream for his daughter to be known around the world," Phil Star quoted Liza as saying. "My dad is so proud of Pia Wurtzbach when she won last year, so that's why he wants me to join."

However, Liza said she is currently just focusing on acting and studying so she does not have enough time to prepare and commit to being a beauty queen. Her most recent film "My Ex and Whys," in which she starred opposite Enrique Gil, was a certified box office hit.

Liza's fellow Maybelline girl Kelsey Merritt is also being encouraged by fans on social media to join beauty pageants and become the next Filipino to win Miss Universe. Liza described Merritt as a very bubbly and a very good person and a promising model who is fun to work with.

Meanwhile, Wurtzbach is set to make a television comeback. She will appear as a guest judge in "Asia's Next Top Model" Cycle 5, which will premiere on April 5 on the cable channel Star World.

In November 2016, Wurtzbach was in Singapore with the cast and crew of "Asia's Next Top Model" Cycle 5, ABS-CBN News has learned. She was also with her boyfriend Marlon Stockinger at the time.
