South Korean-Chinese male group EXO member Baekhyun and Kim Min Suk were two of the winners at the 12th Annual Soompi Awards. The former was voted as Best Idol Actor while the latter was named Breakout Actor and it would be interesting to see the two star opposite each other in a new drama series.

In 2016, Baekhyun played a supporting character named Wang Eun in the SBS drama series "Scarlet Heart: Goryeo." In the same year, Kim played Kim Gi Beom in the KBS2 drama series "Descendants of the Sun" and Choi Kang Soo in the SBS show "Doctor Crush," both of which are supporting roles.

The winners of the annual survey with 29 categories were announced on March 2, Thursday, by Soompi. With Fuse and ZANYBROS as partners, the United States-based online news provider specializing in Korean pop culture received almost 100 million votes from hallyu fans from 139 countries across the globe from Dec. 19, 2016 to Jan. 16.

In the Best Idol Actor category, Baekhyun defeated Girl's Day's Hyeri and Minah, B1A4's Jinyoung, BtoB's Minhyuk, After School's Nana, Shinee's Onew, 2PM's Taecyeon and Girl's Generation's Sooyoung and Yuri. In 2016, Hyeri, Minah, Jinyoung, Minhyuk, Nana, Onew, Sooyoung, Taecyeon and Yuri starred in "Entertainer," "Beautiful Gong Shim," "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds," "Nightmare Teacher," "The Good Wife," "Descendants of the Sun," "Hey Ghost, Let's Fight," "Perfect Sense" and "Gogh, the Starry Night."

In the Breakout Actor category, Kim was chosen over nine other actors. The other nominees were Jin Goo, Kwak Dong Yeon, Lee Dong Hwi, Lee Tae Hwan, Nam Ji Hyun, Park So Dam, Ra Mi Ran, Ryu Jun Yeol and Yoon Kyun Sang.
