The Wild Atlantic Way was given a prestigious Chinese tourism award at a ceremony this week. It was named as the “Best International Self-Drive Route.”

Despite the tight competition, The Wild Atlantic Way was able to take the number one spot. Among its tough competitors are Sweden, Malaysia, Tasmania, California and Florida.

An online voting system was used to determine the winning routes. Ten million Chinese travelers participated in the said poll.

James Kenny, Tourism Ireland’s Manager China, received the award.

“We are delighted that the Wild Atlantic Way has been named a ‘Best International Self-Drive Route’ in the important HuiZuChe awards,” Kenny said.

“Chinese travelers have so much choice nowadays, which makes it more important than ever for us to ensure that the island of Ireland really stands out from other destinations--so this award is really good news as we roll out our busy promotional drive for 2017.”

“This accolade will help to inspire Chinese holidaymakers to choose the Wild Atlantic Way and the island of Ireland; it also provides Tourism Ireland with another great hook to continue to promote Ireland as a ‘must-see’ destination in 2017,” he added.

One of the longest defined coastal routes in the world, the Wild Atlantic Way covers 2,000 kilometers of the Irish coasts. The route starts from the Inishowen Peninsula in the north and ends in Kinsale, County Cork, in the south.

Travelers can enjoy the nature as they journey down the route. Beautiful sceneries of the ocean, the landscape, and the countryside can be seen along the way. Irish culture is also lived by the locals.

With the Chinese tourism award, the Wild Atlantic Way can inspire Chinese tourists to come and experience the adventure.
