After starring with Song Hye Kyo in "Descendants of the Sun," Song Joong Ki is set to make his big screen comeback in "Battleship Island." Among his co-stars in the upcoming historical drama film are Kim Soo An and Hwang Jung Min.
In 2016, Kim played Soo An in "Train to Busan" with Gong Yoo. She made her acting debut in the short film "Sprout" in 2013.
Kim's first full length film was "Mad Sad Bad," which was released in 2014, the same year she played a little kid in "Gyeongju." In 2015, she played Goo-Seul in "Memories of the Sword."
On the other hand, Hwang made his acting debut in the 1990 film "General's Son." He went on to star in the films "Push! Push!," "Swiri," "Waikiki Brothers," YMCA Baseball Team," "Road Movie," "Under a Big Tree," "A Good Lawyer's Wife," "The Last Wolf," "This Charming Girl," "A Bittersweet Life," "Heaven's Soldiers" and "Ode to My Father."
In 2015, Hwang starred in "Veteran" and "The Himalayas." In 2016, he starred in three films, which are "A Violent Prosecutor," "The Wailing" and "Asura: The City of Madness."
Joining Hye Kyo, Kim and Hwang in the cast of "Battleship Island" are So Ji Seob and Lee Jung Hyun. The film is directed by Ryoo Seung Wan.
"Battleship Island" is Joong Ki's first film since 2012. The last films he starred in were "Pennu Pinchers" in 2011 and "A Werewolf Boy" in 2012.
Joong Ki starred in the TV series "The Innocent Man" in 2012. He had a hiatus from 2013 to 2015 and returned to the small screen in 2016 when he played Yoo Shi Jin in "Descendants of the Sun" opposite Hye Kyo as Kang Mo Yeon.
Hye Kyo is also making her big screen comeback in the film "Ships Passing in the Night." The last films she starred in were the 2014 drama film "The Cross" opposite Zhang Ziyi and Takeshi Kaneshiro and the 2015 romance film "The Queens" with Annie Yi, Qin Hao, Joe Cheng, Vivian Wu, Tony Yang, Joe Chen and Shawn Dou.
Fans of Joong Ki and Hye Kyo may not see them reunite in "Descendants of the Sun" Season 2 but they can see them on the big screen soon although separately. Here is a clip from the series:
