It was during the third day of May when Sony finally released the anticipated trailer of "The Dark Tower." Recent reports claim that the movie is not totally following its book series' counterpart.

It can be recalled that Stephen King first released "The Dark Tower" book series in 1982 with its first installment 'The Gunslinger'. It was then followed by 'The Drawing of the Three' (1987), The Waste Lands (1991), Wizard and Glass (1997), The Little Sisters of Eluria (1998), Wolves of the Calla (2003), Song of Susannah (2004), The Dark Tower (2004), and The Wind Through the Keyhole (2012), cites Wikipedia.

With that said, a publication on Screen Rant cited that Nikolaj Arcel, who directed the upcoming 2017 movie adaptation of the book series, was not able to mainly follow what was written in the book. It was said that the reason behind this is because some of the things included in the book might not be that entertaining to the film viewers. As a result, Arcel grabbed various stories from all of the 8 novels and then combined these storylines to form a single plot for "The Dark Tower" movie. However, it was noted that most of the storylines of the film were from the first book 'The Gunslinger'.

On the other note, it seems that the author of the book series, Stephen King, approved the decision of Arcel in not mainly following the chronological version of the books, cites The Hollywood Reporter. It was revealed by a fan of the book franchise that King has a participation in the development of the script. Another detail cited by the report is the fact that Arcel called the movie a sequel of the books. This led to speculations that the film itself might be what happened to Roland (played by Idris Elba in the film) after he opened the door at the top of the tower in the last installment of the book series.

In regards to the release date, "The Dark Tower" is confirmed to hit the theaters on Aug. 4, 2017.
