An Australian man named Jace Larke witnessed the birth of his child in real time with the help of Samsung Gear VR headset, CNET reported. He was 4,000 kilometres away from home when his wife gave birth to his child. Jace is a FIFO electrical contractor and spends four weeks on-site in Chincilla and one week at home in Perth.

Jace's wife, Alison, was scheduled to deliver in St. John of God Mt. Lawley Hospital in Perth. A Samsung team set up streaming and audio equipment and cameras in hospital room, which was paired with the virtual reality headset in Chincilla.

Samsung had also set up a special room for Jace. Jace went to that room to watch the delivery when he got the call. He put on the Samsung Gear VR headset and he could see Alison's room in real time. Both husband and wife were wearing microphones so that they could easily interact with each other. It seemed as if Jace was present in the hospital room.

Alison said that Jace was able to see the birth of their son even though he was not physically present in the room. Alison further said that she is happy that her husband did not miss out on this memorable moment and the experience has changed their lives forever, Forbes reported.

Samsung chief marketing officer Arno Lenior, said, "As one of the leaders in technology innovation, Samsung wanted to demonstrate the potential of virtual reality and how this unique technology can address real challenges people face every day."

Lenior further said, "Through Alison and Jason's story, we're excited to be able to demonstrate how technology can help tackle the tyranny of distance and bring our loved ones closer."
