Microsoft has announced that they are offering free upgrade to Windows 10 operating system for all users running Windows. It includes both genuine copies and pirated versions of the software.

The company's drastic decision is aimed at huge countries including China, India and Brazil among others where pirated version of Windows runs on most computers. Sharing the news to Reuters, Microsoft's Terry Myerson, operating system chief said, "All qualified computers are eligible to be upgraded to Windows 10. The list comprises of both genuine and non-genuine version."

They are yet to speak in detail about the word "qualified" as it is unclear of how they qualify a computer for free upgrade, when it runs a torrent copy of the OS using crack files.

Apparently, this is a bold attempt by the organization which aims to bring every user under their roof to give them a genuine experience free for a year, so that they might be obliged to buy it later. Piracy is a huge problem for the software in several countries. Statistics reveal over 75 percent of computers in China run illegal copies and it is just a slice of the bigger picture. A similar scenario exists in many other countries as well.

In an update posted by The Verge, it is confirmed that Microsoft will be rolling out free upgrades to every computer around the world. The promotion is not limited to China, but will focus on non-genuine users around the globe.

"Our belief is that customers will get an opportunity to experience the value and the convenience of using a licensed product. Windows 10 will also find a wider platform among a new group of users and we believe it will help reduce piracy to a good extent," said Microsoft in a statement.
