The Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) has made announcements for its newest batch of official certifications.

RIAJ had introduced a new system of certification last year for the online streaming of songs. The new system was an addition to its already existing systems for digital download sales and physical album shipment. As per the recent system, songs are given silver certifications once they reach 30 million streams, while 50 million and 100 million streams receive gold and platinum certifications respectively.

In the newly announced batch of certifications by RIAJ, both BTS and ITZY received several official certifications for streaming. The 2020 hit WANNABE by ITZY become the K-pop band's first-ever song to ever get a gold streaming certification in Japan after being streamed over 50 million times.

ITZY also received three official silver certifications for their songs Not Shy, Icy, and DALLA DALLA, all of which were streamed more than 30 million times. ITZY, which comprises members Yuna, Chaeryeong, Ryujin, Lia, and Yeji, is a South Korean girl group that was formed by JYP Entertainment.

The K-pop sensation BTS received a total of six silver certifications for Make It Right, I'm Fine, Magic Shop, Don't Leave Me, Crystal Snow, and Fire. The Bangtan Boys extended their record as the artist with most songs to have earned RIAJ's official streaming certifications. Earlier this year, in March, BTS earned its 1st RIAJ Platinum Certification Dynamite for over 250,000 downloads in Japan. The boy group also became the first foreign group in the history of RIAJ to earn a platinum certification for streaming last December.

TWICE also earned silver certification for their latest Japanese single Kur Kura, which extends their record as the female artist with the most songs to have earned RIAJ's official streaming certifications. TWICE is also a girl group formed by JYP Entertainment. The group consists of nine members Tzuyu, Chaeyoung, Dahyun, Mina, Jihyo, Sana, Momo, Jeongyeon, and Nayeon.

"Since April 2020, our association has been accrediting works whose cumulative number of streams from the distribution start date exceeds a certain number according to the following standards," according to a statement by RIAJ.

RIAJ also explained the certification process, saying that is it based on the cumulative number of streams that the Association calculates on the basis of the data given by GfK Japan and also each member company's application, which in principle is the month-end following the certification month. RIAJ publishes the certified works every month.
