The American Music Awards and BTS official Twitter account stated on November 8 that K-pop group BTS will both attend and perform at the upcoming show.

The Bangtan Boys are slated to perform a remix version of their hit single "Butter" first time on stage at the show in Los Angeles alongside American rap artist Megan Thee Stallion. It will be the world premiere performance by the group on this song.

The K-pop supergroup has a vibrant history with the AMAs. The boys made their TV debut in the US with the AMA show performance of "DNA" in 2017. Since then, the boys have been nominated for nine awards, winning every one of the six nominations before 2021.

At the 2021 AMAs, BTS has earned a nomination for the artist of the year (AotY) category, which is arguably the night's biggest award category and the main award.

The group has anyway made history for being the first K-pop artist to ever win an AotY nomination at the AMAs. The night will be even more legendary for BTS if they manage to win the award.

The Bangtan Boys have attended shows virtually since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 due to safety measures that put a restriction on international travel. The pandemic and related measures haven't stopped the group from performing though, as they put up a virtual performance from their home country for the 2020 AMAs, 2021 Billboard Music Awards, and the 2021 Grammys.

However, the 2021 AMAs will be the first in-person award show appearance for the members of BTS since their attendance at the 2020 Grammy Awards. Jungkook, V, Jimin, J-Hope, Suga, Jin, and RM traveled to New York, USA in September 2021 for the first time in over a year to participate in the 76th United Nations General Assembly.

BTS is going to have its first offline concert after the pandemic at Los Angeles's SoFi Stadium on November 27-28 and December 1-2. It seems that the boys will be able to take part in the AMAs, which will take place just a week prior to the stadium shows. Right after that, the group will also be a part of the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball Live In Concert show.

The AMAs are a yearly fan-voted awards ceremony and this year it will take place on November 21 at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles. The show will be aired live on ABC.
