Chen, the main singer of popular South Korean boyband EXO, is expecting a second child with his wife.
The artist's label, SM Entertainment, has issued an official statement confirming the same, saying that it is true that the singer's wife is pregnant and expecting their second child. Incidentally, the identity of Chen's wife has been kept under wraps.
Chen announced his marriage in January 2020 and he and his wife welcomed their first child in April last year. At that point, the singer had taken fans by surprise when he made his marriage announcement through a handwritten letter.
The singer had received a backlash from fans when he had made the out-of-the-blue announcement for marriage with his girlfriend who was expecting his first child. Fans were shocked hearing the news and some even went as far as demanding him to be expelled from EXO.
In about three months after a private wedding, Chen and his wife welcomed a daughter. The couple recently celebrated their daughter's first birthday at a hotel in Seoul.
Following the good news now, there was an outpour of congratulatory messages for the singer and his wife by fans on social media platforms and online communities.
Many fans were, however, expecting the popular K-pop artist to issue a statement announcing the news and also hoped that he would not issue an apology like he did the last time.
This time around, fans posted messages such as Chen was so brave for announcing that he was getting married and expecting a child last year. Fans are happy that the singer is going to be a dad the second time around and are happy for him.
Some fans also dug deep and posted an old video of the artist speaking about wanting a son and a daughter in the future.
At present, the 29-year-old singer is completing his mandatory military service. He was enlisted in October 2020 and will be discharged next year in April.
Chen, whose real name is Kim Jongdae, is a part of the pop group EXO and its subunit EXO-CBX alongside members Xiumin and Baekhyun.
The artist made his debut as part of EXO in 2012. In the same year, the K-pop band released their first mini-album "Mama" in both Korean and Chinese. The band's most recent music release was June's "Don't Fight The Feeling" special album, featuring an eponymous title track.
