Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann dropped hints recently that the company is developing a new hyped Urus SUV, whose production is set to begin by 2017. However, there remain some question marks about what type of engine system might power it.

The automaker's two-car system now includes the Gallardo and Aventador Superveloce. Although this system has proved to be quite profitable, remember that good things come in threes.

In fact, for quite a while Lamborghini has been performing research and development about the possible options for future vehicles. Each the most probable options would require the company to step outside of its design comfort zone.

Winkelmann has explained that developing an SUV would only be an option for the company if its performance met the company's standards, according to Road & Track. Once it meets that criterion, issues such as the Lamborghini SUV's engine system would be tackled.

The main options for the new engine system include a turbo engine, a hybrid system, or a monster-sized engine. While each of these designs is possible, the last one would be the least probable.

Still, it is apparent that the Urus would be an all-wheel drive vehicle. This has been a feature of the company's cars since it was initiated it the early 1990s.

The increasing demand for luxury SUVs seems to be the reason Lamborghini has decided to develop its own. Other automakers with their first luxury SUV in the hopper include Bentley and Rolls Royce, according to Digital Trends

For now the auto world must wait with a collective bated breath until Lamborghini sheds some light on the development of its SUV. Perhaps the picture won't be totally clear until the Urus rolls into Lamborghini dealerships.
