Final Fantasy XI by Square Enix is a MMORPG that managed to withstand the test of time like World of Warcraft and in order to cope up with growing smartphone trend, the game will soon see an official launch on mobile platforms.
Massively multiplayer online games have diminished in popularity because of players moving towards mobile platforms. The developers have decided to step into it with two different games namely, the Final Fantasy XI Mobile and the Final Fantasy Grandmasters.
Square Enix will be publishing the games but both of them are being designed and developed by two different third party developers. The mobile version is being done by Nexon, a company best known for its massively popular MMO titles while the spinoff Grandmasters is being developed by Crooz.
Bringing the franchise to smartphone gamers will open up a whole new platform and will support the title for longer lifespan, says Digital Trends.
The story will be set in the Vana'diel world and all combat features exclusive to the franchise will be exported to the mobile devices with a touch friendly device. It will also have monsters from the Final Fantasy XI title. The other Generations will be more of a play on the go design, made for casual gamers without being hardcore MMO.
The publishers also announced that the game will finally be closing down servers and ending its support for players on PS2 and Xbox 360 platforms. The support ends on March, 2016 which gives roughly a year's time for players to experience it to their heart's content. Meanwhile, the PC version will be supported so that players can continue to play Final Fantasy XI without interruption.
Generations is expected to launch before the end of 2015, while the other title is expected to launch in spring 2016, according to a report from Kotaku.
