New York Yankees potential Jose Pirela was recently released from a hospital on Sunday after crashing into the center field wall in the first inning of the game which ended up an inside-the-park home run for Juan Lagares of the Mets'.
Lagares' drive off CC Sabathia, his third pitch of the game, was a tad short of Pirela's reach on the warning track. The center fielder's momentum was what carried him off and into the wall, where he appeared to have crashed pretty hard, face first.
Pirela fell on the ground and hit the back of his head on the field. He tried to sit-up but went goings down again onto his back, according to ESPN New York.
The team's spokesperson announced later that night that Pirela was discharged from Tradition Medical Center. He took several laboratory tests which includes his neck and spine. The MRI tests results came back negative. A brain CT scan also was found negative.
Joe Girardi, Pirela's manager, was only looking on earlier Sunday, a Yankees trainer checked and examined Pirela, to know the versatile 25-year-old who has been playing different positions this spring. Pirela was able to walk and was helped to board into a golf cart.
An ambulance took him and brought him to the emergency unit straight from the Mets' complex, to have a CT scan and MRI. Both came out negative but he did suffered a concussion, FOX News reported.
"He provides excitement with his speed, and we're moving him all around. We think he could possibly help us in a lot of different spots," Girardi said. "That makes a player very valuable when he can play four or five different spots on a field. That flexibility is a great thing to have."
