On Wednesday, Zayn Malik, the 22-year-old vocalist and member of fan-favourite One Direction, announced his split from the boyband. The singer's decision has left everyone in shock and wondering why.
The declaration of his separation from the original One Direction members-Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Liam Payne-was made through the band's official Facebook Page. In the statement, Zayn Malik not only expressed his gratitude but also apologized to the fans of the band.
In a heartfelt statement on the social media network, Zayn Malik announced his life with One Direction has been more than he "could ever imagine." For those unfamiliar, the enormously popular boyband was formed in 2010 and gained prominence after their appearance on the reality talent show "The X Factor." The London-based group has achieved several laurels and has set multiple billboard records.
In the statement, Malik explained why he is leaving One Direction. "I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight," Malik wrote in the message to the fans on Facebook.
Meanwhile, Mirror UK notes that Malik's statement has led to a frenzy of speculations. According to the daily news publication, it is being assumed that the real reason why Malik quit One Direction is because of his fiancé Perrie Edwards. It is reported that he might be making a reference to Perrie Edwards when he says "private time" in the statement.
Malik's decision has created quite a stir among the fans and media outlets. A source apparently close to One Direction told Us Weekly that the other band members "knew it was coming." The source reportedly disclosed that Malik "just wasn't happy" and had realised that he has achieved everything he can out of being the part of the band and it is time make a move.
It is reported that the "Story of My Life" singer struggled while "adjusting to this level of fame" and he was unable to take the pressure. "The stress got to him and he just realized he wanted a normal life. It just got to be too much," source told the publication.
Meanwhile, another unnamed source told Hollywood Life that Malik was unable to handle the pressure that "came from the insanity of fame and being a huge celebrity." At the same time, it is being reported that it added stress to his life and "affected his health."
It is wise to take the information with a pinch of salt as the source remains anonymous and the reports lack official confirmation from the associated persons. Panic about Malik quitting One Direction starting spreading when Malik withdraw from the Asia tour last week. It must be noted that following Malik's split with One Direction, the band will continue as a four-piece with the remaining members-Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Niall Horan. The band will be recording their fifth album that is expected to release later this year.
