Listeria contamination may cause serious illness and even death. Don't purchase or eat spinach products bought from these areas, the companies have notified.

The products that are contaminated include Spinach Artichoke and Parmesan Dip made with Greek Yogurt and Chunky Spinach Artichoke and Parmesan Dip, according to M Call.

Listeria infection can take up to 70 days' time to show symptoms which include headache, stiff neck, muscle weakness, dizziness and gastrointestinal symptoms.

Young children, pregnant women, seniors, and those with weakened immune systems are vulnerable. Pregnant women can undergo miscarriage and stillbirth due to Listeria, according to Food Poisoning Bulletin.

Listeria monocytogenes is the agent of a rare bacterial disease, listeriosis, a serious infection that occurs for eating food contaminated with the bacteria. The diseases caused by Listeria are rare but can be dangerous enough.

Spinach recalls are not new. In 2011, 2012 and 2013, companies had recalled Spinach products for various contamination issues.

Twin City Foods has notified that anyone who purchased the spinach products from the company should dispose of or return them to the place of purchase for a 100 percent refund.

No deaths or illnesses have been reported due to Listeria contamination yet, though.
