Google's video streaming website Youtube recently launching a bunch of 4K videos that run at an impressive 60 frames per second.

The website earlier upgraded their player to support HTML 5 which ran 2K and 4K videos much better. They are now pushing its limits to become technologically advanced by streaming those ultra-high definition videos to 60 FPS.

At the moment, only a couple of short video clips are available. Users who like to experience it in full glory need to have a 4K monitor and a good internet connection so as to buffer the huge file size. However, selected models of expensive video cameras can support such frame rates. It should take some time before it becomes mainstream, according to Techcrunch.

Youtube also posted a couple of sample clips which runs at a resolution of 3840 x 2160 at 60 FPS. Videos run unbelievably smooth at this frame rates, especially in a resolution which is still reserved only for Retina iMacs and IMAX screens.

The 4K 60 FPS videos run best on Chrome and Safari browsers but Firefox is one browser that is not designed to be compatible with these videos yet. Reports indicate that the browser halts or crashes whenever the ultra HD content is played.

The news comes right in the time when an earlier rumor confirmed that Youtube is planning to launch live game streaming service to compete Twitch. Gaming at 60 FPS is quite common among the PC community and if they plan to be a worthy competitor, this is a mandatory feature.

The company has not commented about a possible streaming service so far but with their constant upgrades, but YouTube is definitely heading towards the consumer community to host live events, sports as well as gaming tournaments, Slash Gear reported.
