The first institute of advanced study on Ethnology and Anthropology in Inner Mongolia was officially opened on March 28, Saturday.

The said institute was set up and established in Inner Mongolia Normal University. An inauguration ceremony was held, attended by Inner Mongolia Normal University President Yun Guohong.

One of the institute’s main initiatives is to be able to provide prudent advice and intellectual support for the region’s policy making regarding ethnology and anthropology. Furthermore, it aims to give support for better execution and results of the studies and research in the field.

President Yun mentioned the importance of the institute’s task in the field of research in ethnology and anthropology.

"The Belt and Road Initiative and the China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Corridor have brought new opportunities for Inner Mongolia, as an important northward bridgehead of China," said Yun, "but also brought new tasks and topics for our ethnology and anthropology research."

On the same day, the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences also unveiled its research and training base in Inner Mongolia Normal University. With this, the institute targets to organize a research team of experts and scholars to begin to work on a batch of study topics in ethnology and anthropology.

Hao Shiyuan, assistant to the president of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, was also present during the unveiling ceremony.

Inner Mongolia Normal University was the first university of Inner Mongolia after the foundation of the People’s Republic of China. Since its founding in 1952, it has been known as a key university in the region.
