When net neutrality became a huge issue, Comcast was considered as a company that was against it because they were allegedly the company that created speed lanes. However, by launching a 2Gbps internet connection, Comcast has changed everyone's perspective.
Google Fiber was the first to announce that they are bringing fiber internet connection that have a massive speed 1 Gbps. The service is slowly being rolled out to multiple locations in the United States and AT&T Gigapower is the following the same route.
Comcast's new internet bundle came as a surprise announcement and the company has confirmed that they are planning to cover at least 18 million homes before the end of 2015.
Answering a question related to data cap which had always been a complaint that Comcast owners had, a company representative speaking to Engadget said that there will be no such restrictions in the upcoming fiber connections.
"The technology that powers the newest 2Gbps connection allows more freedom to users. There is no need to restrict customers in this regard," the spokesperson added.
Comcast confirmed that in order to establish a connection, the location has to be close to any urban center as it requires professional peripherals for installation. The pricing for the package has not been revealed by the company so far but it looks like they are really adamant on competing with Google Fiber and AT&T Gigapower which might make them keep the price tag low, adds The Verge.
As consumers are looking forward to experience the quality of service, the company is planning to showcase a demo in specific regions in the coming weeks.
