The story on Jane Villanueva's (Gina Rodriguez) pregnancy continues in "Jane The Virgin" Season 1, episode 17 titled "Chapter Seventeen." Jane prepares and tries to learn stuff about babies but a couple of parenting issues surfaced.
Jane goes shopping with Lina (Diane Guerrero) for the baby stuff because Rafael Solano (Justin Baldoni) is busy with the preparations for the upcoming party at the Marbella hotel. Jane starts to panic after finding out that there are a lot of things to learn when it comes to raising a baby.
Jane's ex-fiancé Michael (Brett Dier) sees how happy Rogelio (Jaime Camil) and Xiomara (Andrea Navedo) are when he dropped by Rogelio's place to give his badge and Jr. Detective certificate that commemorates the time he spent with the police force. Michael also has an awkward encounter with Jane when she arrived at Rogelio's home with Rafael.
Rafael invites Jane's father Rogelio to go to the Marbella hotel party. Jane goes to a lactation class with Xiomara because Rafael still has things to work on at the hotel.
While Xiomara worries about being the first one to say "I love you," Jane worries that she will not do well in raising her baby. Jane even imagines seeing her future 6-year-old daughter telling her that she is a terrible mother.
Abuela Alba (Ivonne Coll) is at work so Xiomara drops by the Villanueva house with Rogelio to pick up some of her stuff. Jane asks Rogelio to tone down his closeness with Michael because it is uncomfortable for her and Rafael.
Xiomara tells Jane she should not overthink when it comes to raising her baby. Xiomara explains to Jane she was able to raise her without depending on lactation classes or textbooks.
At the Marbella, Petra (Yael Grobglas) and Aaron Zazo (Alano Miller) become close. A text message from Rafael interrupts Petra and Aaron's conversation.
Petra finds out from Rafael that they do not have a permit. Rafael wants to carry on with the party as planned but Petra is worried that they will get caught.
Rogelio asks Michael to go with him to the Marbella hotel party. Rogelio wants Michael to meet the ladies, have a new girlfriend and move on from his relationship with Jane.
Jane meets up with Andi, her new friend from the romance writers group that she recently joined in. The girls talk about Andi's ex but Jane has no idea that the ex they are talking about is Michael.
When Andi mentioned babysitting, Jane tells her that she wants to try taking care of a baby. "I need to practice," Jane declares.
Xiomara tries to make Rogelio say "I love you." The evening turned sour for the couple because Rogelio did not get the hints that Xiomara threw at him.
Jane and Rafael talk about the things they need to accomplish during her pregnancy. A phone call about a problem at the party interrupted Jane and Rafael's conversation.
Andi arrives at Abuela's home with baby Luna. Then, Jane helps Andi send a text message to her ex while the baby sleeps.
Baby Luna wakes up in need of a diaper change. However, Andi forgot to put diapers in Luna's bag so she heads out to get some.
Jane wants to try swaddling the crying baby in order to calm her down but Xiomara, who dropped by the house to get her cellphone, wants Jane to just pick up the baby and soothe her. Jane hurts Xiomara's feelings because they have a different approach when it comes to raising a child.
At the party, Michael tells Rogelio that Xiomara got mad because he failed to pick up on her hints about saying "I love you." Then, Rafael and Petra are forced to shut down the party because there were underage drinkers at their beach and they do not have a permit.
Michael gives Andi a call and it is revealed that Andi knows Jane is Michael's ex. Petra shows up at Aaron's place to talk about the hotel's problem and her feelings for Rafael.
Meanwhile, Jane and Rafael have a huge fight. Rafael is upset about the current problem at the hotel while Jane is frustrated because she has been doing the baby stuff on her own.
Rogelio explains to Xiomara that he wants the animosity between her and his mother to be gone. Rogelio also wants Xiomara to get his mother's approval because it means a lot to him and their relationship.
Jane admits to Rafael during their conversation that she is scared things will all be on her after the baby arrives. Rafael assures Jane they will figure out a way to raise their child together but Jane feels work will get in the way.
The episode ends with Abuela, Xiomara and Jane working things out and Petra telling Rafael that they have a big problem. "I don't know why, I don't know how but I do know that it's not Aaron. It's Roman," Petra declares. Petra noticed some traits in Aaron that prove his twin brother Roman is still alive.
"Jane The Virgin" returns with episode 18 titled "Chapter Eighteen" on April 13, Monday night at 9/8c on the CW Network.
