World’s no.1 Novak Djokovic feels that he’s currently at the top of his game, as he rides on his best start in the season since his historic run in 2011 when he bagged the Australian, Wimbledon and US Open Championship.
Djokovic, who is coming off a rare back-to-back triumph at Indian Wells and Miami Masters, believes that he’s having the best tennis of his career, playing at the peak of his prime and getting used to all of kinds of situations after grueling battles with elite players the past three to four years.
“The experience of playing at a high level for the last three or four years helped me to handle these particular situations better than I have done in 2010 and 2011,” Djokovic told the press via ATP News before he began his campaign to become the only player to win the first three ATP Masters 1000 tournaments of the year at the Monte Carlo Masters. "I feel like I have matured physically.
“I’m enjoying my time on the court, playing some of my best tennis. Next to 2011, this is definitely the best start I’ve ever had... It’s [been] four months, and [there's] still a lot of time to come.”
After a wrist injury hampered his campaign in last year’s Monte Carlo Masters, the 27-year old Djokovic feels much more comfortable coming into the tournament in Monaco, his second home away from Belgrade, Serbia.
“I am at my home base here in Monaco, where I spend a lot of time when I’m not at the tournaments,” he said. “I do feel very comfortable and excited to play in Monaco, where I think I’ve played consistently well throughout many years… hopefully I can start the clay-court season as well as I want to.”
Djokovic will start his campaign on Tuesday as he takes on Spain’s Albert Ramos, who defeated Neatherland’s Robin Haase 6-1, 6-1 in the first round.
However, the road to the title will be a lot tougher this year with Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal and a bunch up-and-coming tennis stars all set to compete in this clay-court season kicker.
