With Obi Mobiles not investing much in technology but more in design and marketing, Sculley attracted a few designers from the Silicon Valley. The company tied up with design house Ammunition in California to design smartphones.

Obi Mobiles EMEA managing director Amit Rupchandani told Emirates 24/7 that the forthcoming Obi Mobiles devices "will give consumers a touch and feel of Apple but at a very disruptive price-point."

Obi Mobiles' iPhone-like device is said to cost $100 to $200.

Meanwhile, there are rumors that Apple will once again try its luck in conquering other segments of the smartphone market by releasing a cheaper iPhone or the successor of iPhone 5C - iPhone 6C. The device was allegedly spotted in a German retailer 24mobile.de ahead its announcement. The iPhone 5C costs $99 under a contract of two years, which some consumers find still expensive.

iPhone 6C is reported to sport a 4-inch screen display with slightly less specs and features compared to the 6S series. The cheaper iPhone will pack A8 processor. The smartphone is purported to be released alongside iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus in the fall. However, Apple has not confirmed the existence of the device.
