The Chongqing Morning News recently reported about an inventor from the Yubei District who invented a lock that can only be opened with a kiss.

Duan Chengliang, 34, told the paper that he came up with the idea in 2008 when he noticed that the affection couples show for each other waned the longer they have been together.

On April 29, Wednesday, Duan and his wife, Li Chenling, invited several representatives of the paper to their apartment to demonstrate the kiss-triggered device.

He and his wife stood at opposite ends of a large 20-by-30 box with their right thumbs pressed on the right side and their left thumbs pressed on the left. A smaller box on top of the large one opened as soon as the couple locked lips.

"The wires in the cardboard base connect the fingerprint identification sensor and the metal plate. Fingerprint identification is a pretty common method nowadays for unlocking devices, but the round metal plate is a biological organism conduction system and it's the key to unlocking the box," Duan explained.

He further told the paper that the lock only opens if all three stages are met. Stage one requires that both sets of fingerprints pass an identification test. The couple then needs to press both their hands on the biological organism conduction system at the same time. And finally the warmth of their lips pressing would activate and in turn open the box.

Although Duan only received elementary education, his passion for electronics and his desire to provide his wife with a better life led him to the creation of this device. He is currenlty in talks with a company interested in investing in his plans to incorporate his invention into jewelry boxes, luggage and safes. Duan hopes these products would be available for sale worldwide.
