Buildings in Shanghai’s Pudong New Area violating city planning regulations may face demolition as the Pudong New Area Planning and Land Authority had ordered a building developer in the area to tear down part of its building after it was found violating the rule.

According to an article published in xinmin.cn, Shanghai Cred Real Estate Stock Co. was granted approval for the construction of a two-story flat-roofed management and service center within its 14,000-square-meter park near East Huanlin and Yinhuan roads.

The report said that the government agency ordered the company to remove several excessive features that the company has added to the building's approved design, which included an entire third floor made up of a guardhouse, a pitched roof and a sunken courtyard.

The government agency added that the building's interior design included other lavish accessories such as chandeliers in the entrance hall, numerous sculptures and marbled floor. According to the agency, the total area of development has exceeded the approved footprint for the building.

The agency added that since the building was planned mainly to provide office space for park management workers including storage space for garden tools and equipment, the lavish structure attracted public attention, including the local media.

The report said that the district planning and land administration began its investigation after the local media published an article on the controversial structure.

As a result, Cred Real Estate was eventually ordered to rectify the features that were found to be in violation and rebuild the building for purpose as approved in its initial design.

The report said that the restructuring work started on May 7.
