The Android 5.1 Lollipop update will address issues with the Android 4.4.4 version. In addition, the update will have various improvements to the user interface of Moto X originally featured in the Android 5.0 Lollipop update.

The release notes include updates for Moto X 2013 (1st Gen),  Moto X 2014 (2nd Gen) and Moto E.

The Moto X 2013 software update features improvements to the phone's user interface and visual style.
Notifications will appear on the lockscreen of the smartphone. They will be ranked according to their type and the sender of the message. The notification can be opened by double-tapping on it and it can be cleared individually by swiping the message right or left.

The smartphone's Material Design look includes colors, system themes, new applications and widgets. The update enables the smartphone to incorporate Motorola's services such as Motorola Assist, Moto Actions, Moto Active Display and Moto Voice (Touchless Control).

The Android 5.1 Lollipop update includes a new flashlight function. Users can access the flashlight function through the Quick setting.

The Android 5.1 update for Moto X 2014 looks to improve the stability of the smartphone and provide owners with good control over notifications.

A number of bugs have been fixed, including the inability to delete SMS messages when the SIM card is full and unresponsive alarms

Users can adjust Bluetooth device settings and Wi-Fi access points through the new pull-down menu. They can also remove conditional settings tiles, such as Invert Colors or Hotspot, from the active screen by long-pressing every tile.

The Android 5.1 update improves responsiveness of the front-facing camera viewfinder. Furthermore, the Lollipop update decreases the noise during low-light shots.

The Android 5.1 Lollipop update for Moto E features various improvements such as the No Interruptions functionality and the ability to dismiss heads-up notifications without any difficulty.

Moto E smartphones will stay locked even when stolen or lost. The smartphone will only be unlocked if the user signs in to their Google account. This security feature will not be affected by resetting the smartphone back to its factory settings.

The smartphone's Android Runtime has been improved for faster launches of applications with the Android 5.1. The release notes suggest that the updates should be coming soon, according to Android Central.
