Composer of "Tubular Bells" Mike Oldfield is mourning the unexpected passing of his son.

Dougal Oldfield, the eldest son of the musician, died at his workplace on Sunday, Police revealed according to the Daily Mail.

Dougal who worked for a film production company as an editing assistant collapsed and died suddenly, while at work over the weekend.

He was 33 at the time of his demise and a post mortem has revealed no suspicion surrounding his passing. Police confirmed he died of natural causes.

The Oldfield family released a statement, quoted by the Mirror, acknowledging Dougal's sudden passing and asked that the family's privacy be respected.

The Harrow educated youngster has two other siblings born to Sally Cooper, the rock star's second wife and PR worker.

The musician who has been married three times, admitted guilt in his inability to give his children the attention they deserved, according to the Mirror.

Oldfield in previous media interviews claimed his sudden rise to fame, coupled with constant touring, contributed towards his neglected family life.

A friend of Dougal recently commented on his death and described him as a positive soul who was kind, intelligent and considerate.

Mike, 62, whose "Tubular Bells" album sold more than 10 million copies, helped Virgin boss Richard Branson secure the success of his  empire with the 70's instrumental hit.

The debut album for the star was also the first album released under the Virgin label, it headed the top of the charts for more than 200 weeks. Moreover, the instrumentals in the album featured in the popular horror film "The Exorcist."
